Nanna" means "mother" in the Fur language, and our experiences are shaped by the warmth and love of mothers. For over 30 years, a remarkable woman from Sudan has been selling food, coffee, and tea on the streets of Khartoum, Sudan with the goal of providing her children with the education she never had. My mother has been a beacon of inspiration throughout my journey, embodying the roles of a nurturing parent, a successful entrepreneur, and an exemplary leader. Despite the myriad challenges she faced in both her personal and professional spheres, she remained steadfast, resilient, and compassionate. Her goal was always to ensure we received the finest education and lived a life of quality, irrespective of the obstacles she encountered. Her relentless commitment and resolve to nurture well-educated children have been a constant source of inspiration to me, imparting numerous invaluable lessons. Nanna’s Cuisine is not only about food; it’s a mission of cultural exchange, promoting resilience, and celebrating the women whose stories are often untold. Finding Nanna’s Sudanese Cuisine is my thank you to the most beautiful and resilient soul I have ever known—my mother.
